Course aim:

NewLink Wales aims to increase knowledge and understanding about alcohol consumption and the impact that it has or can have on an individual’s driving.

Course description:

NewLink Wales has been delivering up to date and enjoyable learning for over a decade and we feel that this course shouldn’t be any different.

The course is run on a modular basis with 5 sessions that you need to attend to be awarded your certificate of completion.

Our facilitators will not be there to lecture you or punish you in any way. Active participation is encouraged and careful consideration has been made to ensure this course does not patronise or embarrass participants.

Session 1: Welcome and introductions to the DDRS course – facilitator and peer introductions and information about the background, aims and objectives to the course

Session 2: Alcohol awareness – short and long term effects on the body, alcohol units and how it metabolises and impacts driving. This session includes both group and individual involvement.

Session 3: The impact of Drink driving - Alcohol and the brain, the potential impact that drink driving has on you and others, how alcohol reduces your ability to drive safely

Session 4: Why we are here! – realistic understanding about your own drinking behaviour, consider your own attitudes and behaviour and readiness to change, consider some barriers or triggers to why you here. This session will involve some group work but will mainly involve you considering your own attitudes, feelings and behaviours towards alcohol.

Session 5: Safeguarding ourselves - Understand triggers for drinking, look at personal goals and strategies to plan ahead to avoid drink driving and to maintain changes made. This session will involve some group work but will mainly involve you considering your own attitudes, feelings and behaviours towards alcohol.
