Building the capacity and enhancing the effectiveness of substance misuse services by -
linking volunteers to agencies, agencies to training and communities to services
About Us
Our History
We are extremely proud of our achievements over the last 12 years and throughout our history we have had the privilege of engaging with substantial numbers of individuals and professional agencies.
Some of our key achievements include being the first voluntary organisation in Wales to achieve the “Investors in Volunteers Award” in 2010, being the first specialist substance misuse organisation in Wales to achieve “approved centre” status with City & Guilds & the Institute of Leadership & Management and also hosting the first All Wales Drugs & Cultural Diversity Conference to raise awareness of the needs of BME Communities in relation to substance misuse.
The organisation was first established to address skills deficits across the substance misuse sector in Wales and to boost the capacity of treatment services by providing and training volunteers. Our legacy is that many of the professionals, who now work within the substance misuse field across Wales, once started their careers as NewLink Wales volunteers.
We are extremely proud to have been instrumental in shaping the futures of so many people, with over 200 of our ex-volunteers gaining paid employment in the field.
Our services evolved further when gaps in provision were identified for BME communities whose cultural needs were not being met by generic substance misuse services.
In response to this our Community Engagement services were launched and they have built strong links with many communities.
As a result of this important work we have been able to raise awareness of substance misuse issues among many communities and also facilitate engagement with treatment services.
