Course description:

This course aims to bring a broad understanding about substance misuse and the impact that it has on individuals, the course content includes the following:

  1. The main categories of drugs and their effects
  2. Alcohol and its effects
  3. Patterns of drug use
  4. Stigma and stereotyping
  5. Methods of drug use
  6. Introduction to service provision

Course prerequisites:

Basic experience of working or volunteering with people who are experiencing substance misuse

Learning outcomes:

  1. By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  2. Describe the most commonly misused categories of substances
  3. List the effects of alcohol and the risks associated with alcohol misuse
  4. Describe different patterns of substance misuse
  5. Discuss different types of service provision

Course duration:

9:30am – 4:30pm

Accreditation:

This course does have the option of a participant completing an accreditation with an additional cost of £55.
