Target Group: This course is aimed at people who have completed NewLink Wales’ Substance Misuse Awareness course and it may also be suitable for people who have some knowledge of substance misuse already.

Course description:

The course will include:

  1. Information on the most commonly misused drugs and their effects
  2. Practical activities for methods of drug use
  3. How to minimise the harm to those using substances
  4. The recovery concept and putting it into practice

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the effects of commonly used substances
  2. Analyse the risks surrounding the misuse of substances
  3. Identify the main methods of drug use and explore some harm reduction techniques
  4. Examine the injection process, analyse risks and explore harm minimisation methods
  5. Explore the ‘recovery journey’ and identify appropriate interventions

This course does have the option of a participant completing an accreditation with an additional cost of £55.
