In her own words, Ruth explains how working with us has helped her rediscover hope for her future.

"I have always been a hard working Mum, who had depression and the addiction of alcohol. This path led me to being hospitalised with liver failure and subsequently made homeless.

I am currently living in a ‘Dry House’ hostel and their them was introduced to NewLink Wales who have inspired me to attend courses, particularly MILE, which will enable me to go on and volunteer in a substance misuse organisation.

Through NewLink Wales and the 10 week course I am attending, I am now excited about my future. This time last year, as far as I was concerned, I didn’t have any future, home or prospects.

NewLink Wales has given me not just hope, but the professional, accredited courses to enable me to move forward with my life. After this course has finished and I’ll be placed within a charity as a volunteer, and when I’m ready this will allow me to gain paid employment.

It doesn’t just stop there. I have a volunteer co-ordinator at NewLink Wales to support me. Also important, up-to-date relevant courses, support and training to allow me to do such an important job helping vulnerable people back up on their feet, like myself.

NewLink Wales are the vital stepping stones that have enabled people like myself back into work.

I cannot thank them enough and people/businesses who donate and sponsor. NewLink Wales are such a worthy cause. A cause close to my heart. Also for many people where addiction is so prevalent.

I have also joined in the fundraising panto this year. Oh yes I have.

Thank you for taking the time to read this."
