It’s been an incredibly busy year for us here at NewLink Wales, with new developments left, right and centre. And, as ever, the term ‘fundraising’ doesn’t quite cover it – much of what we’ve been up to has also been about making ourselves heard, building new connections, and getting us closer to the communities we help.  Here’s a look back at the great events and projects you’ve helped us with in 2017:

Heroine Day

This year our message that substance misuse isn't a lifestyle choice and that recovery is possible and should be celebrated reached almost 115,000 people online via our Thunderclap!  Local businesses supporting us by stocking wristbands, dressing up or donating proceeds! You can see the full list of costumed champions here. We’ll be looking to make next year’s Heroine Day bigger and better than ever. Dig out those capes!

Go, Jenine, go!

In April, a remarkable supporter, Jenine, ran the London Marathon for NewLink Wales. That’s 26.2 miles – our legs hurt just thinking about it.  The months of training paid off when she smashed her fundraising target of £2,000 to raise a total of £3788. Thank you, Jenine!

Malpeet K9 Biathlon

Our annual 3.5 mile, 25 obstacle human-canine outdoor adventure took place in June with dogs and their human companions taking to the turf.  The Malpeet K9 Biathlon will be back on 12th May 2018 – and remember, you don’t need to be the next Usain Bolt to take part. You can take things at your own pace, and we welcome dogs and humans of all levels of fitness. Head over to the event page to get yourself signed up!

A-lad-in a Talent Contest

Our annual Summer Panto took place in June and charted the adventures of young Al as he attempted to win both the NeXt Factor Talent Show and the heart of new neighbour Jasmin.  Starring NewLink Wales staff, friends and service users, the show was tremendous fun, with audiences laughing (or groaning!) along with a fresh take on a traditional favourite.

Auditions for our 2018 show will be taking place early next year so get in touch for more info if you’d like to take part [email protected]

Feline Good Cat Café

Last but absolutely not least – one of the most exciting projects our fundraising efforts were involved in this year! We’d been in talks with Hollie, Feline Good’s ‘Mama Kitty’ for a little while in the hopes of being able to offer her space on Meridian Court, but this year it became a reality.  Feline Good opened its doors in July 2017, and has been a huge success – our congratulations to Hollie!  If you’d like to book some time in with the cats, visit Feline Good’s website and if you'd like a special day out, the unique Beeline Good experience combines NewLink Wales beekeeping and a Feline Good Cat Café lunch to create one truly fantastic gift. See more here.

Coming up - Skydive for free on Saturday 28 April 2018!
