Volunteering with NewLink Wales

The Facts

No-one wants to become dependent on drugs or alcohol and end up a chaotic or problematic drug or alcohol user.

But some people do - and they need our help and support.

The Organisation

NewLink Wales is here to recruit, train, and place potential volunteers in a range of agencies who work with individuals and groups experiencing substance misuse issues. For example you could volunteer with:

  • Street Drug Agencies
  • Homeless Projects
  • Rehabs
  • Youth Organisations
  • Housing Schemes
  • Alcohol Agencies
  • Criminal Justice Services
  • And many more

We work with and support our volunteers in order to assist them work with and support users. We currently have ninety different services through agencies registered to receive volunteer placements from us. More agencies are joining our organisation all the time, expanding the services in which volunteers can use their skills.

Volunteers are offered accredited training, and ongoing training courses are available to develop their skills and knowledge.

We also design and deliver training courses for staff in agencies working within the substance misuse field.

The Need

If you are interested in volunteering we want to hear from you! We need help with:

  • Drop-in centres
  • Youth work
  • Criminal Justice Services
  • Housing and Homelessness Projects
  • Needle exchange
  • Benefits/form-filling
  • Information work
  • Education workshops
  • Social activities
  • Mobile Outreach
  • Buddying/befriending
  • Counselling
  • Supportive listening and group work
  • And much, much more

We need you to be able

  • To give a certain number of hours per week/month
  • To support, listen, care and be committed to anti-discriminatory principles
  • To become part of a team helping people in crisis through substance misuse agencies

In return we will provide
