Course Specification

This course aims to bring a broad understanding about the different cultures and the impact that substance misuse has on these communities.

The course content includes the following:

  • What is meant by the terms culture and religion
  • Explore some of the most practiced cultures and religions
  • Challenges faced by different communities
  • Identify the impact that substance misuse has within different communities

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  1. Summarise what is meant by ‘culture’ and ‘religion’
  2. Identify cultural and religious sensitivities
  3. Examine challenges faced by different communities
  4. Explore the effects of attitudes and beliefs
  5. Investigate the support available and how to overcome the barriers communities face in accessing services
