Course Specification/Contents:

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

1. Recognise the important interventions that facilitate substance misuse clients to maintain changes.
2. Use cognitive and behavioural methods of relapse prevention work within the drug and alcohol fields.
3. Recognise the skills required for the successful implementation of relapse-prevention techniques.
4. Use the cycle of change with particular emphasis on the maintenance and relapse phases.
5. Recognise different approaches – motivational, group and one-to-one work – within which relapse prevention can be incorporated.
6. Have an opportunity to experience and facilitate some of the relapse prevention exercises

Trainer:

Michael Czerkas

Michael has worked in the substance misuse field for 14 years both in residential settings and community based agencies. An experienced groupworker, Michael designed and developed one of the first Community Reinforcement Approach based programmes in the U.K. Michael also pioneered the use of the Outcome Rating Scale measure in the U.K.
