Course Specification/Contents:
This course is designed around the ACMD report ‘Hidden Harm’
which explores issues surrounding parental drug misuse and its impact
on the child.
The course will:
1. Look at current research on neglect, explaining the effect on the child’s
health and development
2. Explore the scale and extent of children who are considered to be “at
risk” and where substance misuse is believed to be a significant
concern in the care of children
3. Provide an overview on the relevant child protection legislation and
child care practices
4. Explore parental substance misuse within the context of the assessment
framework.
Trainers:
Niall Casserly & Alison Lee
Niall Casserly’s background covers criminal justice and management
within the substance misuse sector. His training experience includes the
development of accreditation modules, training delivery and needs analyses.
Alison is a practising social worker with 15 years experience primarily
within the child protection field. She worked for 5 years within a multi-agency
project working specifically with parents that misuse substances, and
their children. Alison is currently employed as an Independant Reviewing
Officer within a local authority.
