Course Specification/Contents:
The course will aim to raise awareness and understanding of User Involvement
within services.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Describe the concepts of user involvement and advocacy
2. Deploy a range of strategies to meet the challenges of developing a
local user involvement and advocacy strategy
3. Appraise best practice in involving users and carers in planning and
decision making processes
4. Ensure that clients and carers have access to appropriate advocacy
services
5. Consider how users and carers are most effectively involved in the
development of annual drug treatment plans, establishment of priorities
and monitoring of performance
Trainers:
Danny Morris and Jaye Foster
Danny Morris has 20 years experience in the drugs field, including detached
community work, outreach, HIV treatment and drug treatment. He has worked
in the statutory and non-statutory sectors as both a practitioner and
a manager. He has also worked as a commissioner in the drugs and HIV field.
Danny is currently the Development Manager for an NHS drug treatment service
(DASH, Herefordshire PCT).
Jaye Foster has worked within the drugs field for the last decade developing
innovative ways of working with drug users. He has developed and supported
drug user groups across the country and has completed research on the
utilisation of user involvement as a social intervention with drug users.
Jaye is currently a commissioner with a London DAAT commissioning drug
and alcohol services. He currently sits on the NTA services user co-ordinator
forum. He is committed to the development of progressive, evidence based
services.
