Course Specification/Contents

The course will aim to raise awareness of Dual Diagnosis. By the end of the course participants will:

1. Have an understanding of the nature, aetiology, signs and symptoms of mental health
problems

2. Have an understanding of the interactions between psychoactive drugs and mental health problems.

3. Be able to set these issues in a political and social context.

4. Be able to develop a comprehensive plan of care for someone with a co-existing mental health and substance use problem (including routes of referral)

 

Trainer:

Jeff Champney-Smith

Jeff is a consultant nurse in substance misuse. He has a long background as lecturer, practitioner and manager in the statutory substance misuse sector and has recently retired from the National Health Service. Jeff specialises in mental health problems.
