Young Persons Pilot Project
NewLink Wales is very proud to now have a very experienced and dedicated
staff team working within its BME Service who have been actively raising
awareness about Substance Misuse to communities in Cardiff for the past
7 years. Providing education workshops, one to one support, volunteering
opportunities and much more for individuals from age 16 years onwards.
Whilst liaising with the various different age groups and ethnicities
staff were receiving feedback regarding needs and concerns of young people
from the communities. Many of these issues were raised by concerned family
members and others from young people themselves.
A scoping exercise was undertaken to assess the needs of young people
and what NewLink Wales could do to address them.
The aims of the scoping exercise were -
- To identify needs of young people and families from black and minority
communities who are currently at risk, or may have needs with issues
related to substance misuse
- To identify issues and concerns of BME communities relating to young
people and access to substance misuse services with families, young
people and community leaders
